ICCEHS Urges World Leaders to Take Immediate Action
to Protect Civilians in Sudan
Rome, 05th of November 2025
The International Committee on Countering Extremist and Hate Speech (ICCEHS) expresses its deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, which has reached a critical stage and now stands among the gravest humanitarian crises in the world today.

According to the United Nations, more than 30 million people — over half of Sudan’s population — are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Among them, 9.6 million have been displaced from their homes, while nearly 15 million children struggle daily for survival amid escalating violence, insecurity, and famine.

In addition to this long-lasting crisis, the international community has recently witnessed an unfolding catastrophe in El Fasher, where civilians have been subjected to unspeakable suffering. Local humanitarian groups estimate that around 1,500 civilians have been killed, though the true figure remains unknown. Large numbers of residents are reportedly fleeing the city, traumatized, malnourished, and at grave risk of further violence or death. Conditions inside El Fasher remain largely unknown, as the absence of international and trusted monitoring bodies makes accurate assessment impossible.

The ICCEHS considers that this tragedy is partly a result of the alarming rise and spread of extremist and hate speech in Sudan in recent years. Therefore, the Committee calls upon world leaders, international organizations, and regional powers to take immediate and coordinated action to protect civilians, ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and save lives in Sudan.

“The protection of human life must rise above all political considerations. The world must act now — collectively and decisively — to prevent further loss of innocent lives,” said Dr. Nidal Shoukeir, Executive Board Director of ICCEHS. He added: “All international and regional actors must act responsibly and urgently to end the bloody military conflict in Sudan, improve humanitarian conditions, and establish a serious dialogue that leads to lasting peace and stability.”

From his side, Hon. Gennaro Migliore, Advisory Board Director of ICCEHS, emphasized the urgent moral and political responsibility of the international community to act without delay: “The suffering of the Sudanese people cannot remain on the margins of global attention. We must move from words to concrete action — opening humanitarian corridors, supporting peace initiatives, and ensuring real protection for civilians. Sudan needs the world’s solidarity and action in these difficult moments.”

The ICCEHS also urges media institutions and communication platforms worldwide to adopt responsible communication practices, focusing on factual reporting and humanitarian solidarity, while countering misinformation, hate speech, and divisive narratives that may hinder peace efforts.
As an international body dedicated to promoting dialogue, tolerance, and responsible communication, ICCEHS reaffirms its determination to work with global partners to foster peace, protect civilians, and uphold the universal principles of humanity and solidarity.
