ICCEHS Meets Jordanian Amb. Dr. Alia Hatoug-Bouran
“Together to advance a culture of dialogue and responsible communication in the Mena Region”

Dr. Nidal Shoukeir, Executive Board Director of the International Committee on Countering Extremist and Hate Speech (ICCEHS), with Hon. Gennaro Migliore, Advisory Board Director (ICCEHS), held a virtual meeting with H.E. Ambassador Dr. Alia Hatoug-Bouran, Former Member of the Jordanian Senate, to discuss strengthening cooperation in promoting dialogue, countering extremist rhetoric, and fostering responsible communication across the Middle East and North Africa.
The meeting highlighted the importance of coordinated international efforts to address rising challenges related to hate speech and polarization, while reinforcing the role of institutions, policymakers, and civil society in building inclusive and resilient societies. Participants emphasized the need to translate shared principles into practical initiatives that empower communities, promote balanced narratives, and support long-term stability across the region.
Dr. Shoukeir stated: “Promoting responsible communication today is about more than countering harmful narratives—it is about restoring trust, protecting dignity, and reaffirming our shared humanity. In a time of division, choosing dialogue is an act of responsibility and hope.”
He added:“Together, we have the opportunity to shape a narrative that brings people closer, strengthens societies, and offers future generations a foundation built on respect, understanding, and peace.”
For her part, H.E. Ambassador Hatoug-Bouran said: “I commend the important work and mission of ICCEHS in promoting dialogue and countering extremist and hate speech at both regional and international levels. Such efforts are essential in today’s context.”
She added: “Encouraging dialogue and moderation is key to strengthening our societies and empowering future generations. Through meaningful partnerships, we can transform shared values into concrete actions that promote stability and mutual understanding across the region.
Hon. Migliore noted: “Dialogue remains our most effective tool in addressing extremism and preserving democratic values, particularly in regions such as the Middle East and North Africa where stability and cooperation are essential.”
He added: “By working together across regions, we can foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and constructive engagement, and support the MENA region in advancing sustainable peace and resilience.”
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and to develop practical, forward-looking initiatives that advance responsible communication and counter extremist narratives across the MENA region.
Participants expressed a strong commitment to building on this exchange through sustained dialogue, joint initiatives, and enhanced institutional cooperation. This engagement reflects a shared vision of strengthening bridges between regions, empowering voices of moderation, and advancing a more inclusive and resilient future grounded in dialogue, trust, and collective responsibility.
